Telangana : A new State

Last night, P Chidambaram, Home Minister of India, has announced that the Central government will take steps towards creation of a new state called Telangana. It is subject to the resolution passing in AP assembly and parliament. But it looks like they’ll somehow pass it. KCR does 10 days fast in AC rooms under expert doctors observation to divide a state while our shameless central GOVT agrees.  Even then, it will take another 18 months for the new state to form.

At one time this was a nation of many small kingdoms, constantly warring with each other. The British knew how the situation could be exploited, and they used it to their advantage. It’s such a sorry state of affairs that one man with a few thousand supporters can hold a country to blackmail and get his own, when it was very clear from the last few elections that the Telangana people themselves don’t see any need for a separate state. Today’s the day I started feeling like an outsider in the city I’ve called it my own,  leaving loved ones and a job in bangalore.

What exactly will cutting up a state and spending crores making new admin setup, will bring to the people in AP. Central Government has to allocate separate funds to these states to establish all the new infrastructure needed to run the new system.  Ultimately we, the tax payer money goes in the process. I have not seen any state/people of the state make any progress after creation. Live example is state of Jharkand, Chattisgarh, and Uttaranchal. I guess in the name of development, political parties want to create 2 CM posts, 2 Ministerial posts in each dep…instead of one in united Andhra. Unnecessary waste of public money and more corruption. What public can gain, need to be seen?. I would stand anywhere and say that its going to make least difference to the actual people, prices are not going to come down, nothing is going to change.

I don't see any reason, what made Telangana look like a backward place. I don't see any discrimination while awarding ranks in EAMCET, ICET etc..I don't think Wipro, Infosys will discriminate between telangana and andhra while recruiting.  Major industrial development has been concentrated around telangana state. Education wise, Telangana have OU, JNTU,NIT,Kakateeya, ISB. IIT is coming to Telangana. What about HCU, IIIT. Rest of the AP has only AU and SVU. All this development has been done without any regional feeling. NTR developed hyd more than Vijaywads, Chandrababu Naidu developed Hyderabad than chittoor. There are around 1,50,000 IT jobs in Hyderabad.

May be only Irrigation is neglected in Telangana, not sure why this has been done. Though krishna and Godavari flows through Telangana they are diverted to Andhra through dams. There are quiet a few reasons why Andhra got better irrigation than Telengana.

1) Andhra is at a place where rivers merge into sea.  At such places rivers split into multiple sub-rivers (payalu antaru telugulo) then they merge into sea.  Krishna and Godavari split into multiple branches and they flow through many parts of Andhra ending those areas as most fertile lands.  This makes them best suited for cultivation.

2) Telengana is mainly Deccan Plateau.   A region well above sea level; for this reason river water cannot be easily diverted into telengana region as for irrigating these lands only method is "lift irrigation" which is very costly.   Water can flow naturally into Andhra region and also there are fertile lands which gives added benefits for cultivation of Paddy.    Even lands in Telengana are not as well suited for cultivation as in Andhra (naturally fertile land).  This cannot form a major reason for ignoring irrigation in Telengana but a logical reason for a developing country.

3) Telengana is mainly suited for low water cropping but that is also not taken care well by government.  Processes like drip irrigation should have been encouraged.

I felt lot of area in Telegana which should have been used for better development of State and of Telengana.  For this people need leaders with vision; not separate state.

When I was kid India had some 24+ states when I will have kids it might be 100+. New states are rarely formed for administrative convenience but more for satisfying personal egos of leaders who want to make it big and fill their pockets. We will end up more crooked idiots ruling the state for their own benefits. My stand is always "Telangana development in Combined Andhra Pradesh".

  1. Well said!!! Nicely thought out & written once again :).

On a different note, I noticed that you changed the background of this blog. I did not quite like it that much though :), especially the banner at the top where text is getting mixed up with the background.

  3. @raghava : Thanks will change the template soon.

@Kaushik: I agree with you. I even had some telangana friend pinging me and saying , It all started with Potti Sreeramulu.

Andhra was the first state to be formed on the basis of language, a model many thinkers of the time were opposed to, followed by the other state divisions.

So, we really shouldn’t be too surprised by the tactics being employed again today. Our history and our present will continue to haunt us in the future.

  4. I had a similar experience as in the comment above. My colleague, who is a Tamilian was actually comparing KCR with SreeRamulu. I was horrified listening to that.I wish this KCR never existed. Don't you feel that the media made him hero overnight? I was LMAO when I watched this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2OUj_kVDHU&feature=player_embedded#. KCR was even compared with Vallabh Bhai Patel :O .Ponder on this.. KCR would be called father of Telangana, his political life wud be lessons in schools,a university in his name,10-15 years CM of telangana, terrible to imagine,a crap to a hero.. overnight !! Kudos to media :( and good luck Telanganites :P

  5. water naturally flows to ocean, so why to construct dams even in andhra region ? I don't understand the logic of above sea level. Is it not for this reason we are constructing dams to stop water in above sea level and if they are left, naturally will go and merge in ocean.

  6. n. In between 2005-2008 government sold lands worth Rs. 20000 crores in and around Hyderabad which was utilized to build projects in Rayalaseema and Andhra.
    o. Not even a single project was completed in Telangana in the last 5 years while several projects were completed in Andhra and Rayalaseema.
    j. Telangana culture has been undermined in every respect possible. The children of Telangana have been deprived of their culture, thier history to the extent that in today's generation nobody knows about armed struggle against Nizams, Razakar Movement, even the fact that Hyderabad state got independence on Sep 17ht 1948 but not in 1947, to name a few. How many of you people know before 1956 TELANGANA is seperate state having Burugula Ramakrishna Rao as a Cheif Ministor of TELANGANA called Nizam Andra at that time. Potti sriramulu fought for Andra Rastram(combination of Andra+Rayalaseema divided from Madras in 1953 and KADAPA is capital of andra rastram) not for TELANGANA. AndraPradesh(Telangana+Andra+Rayalaseema) formed in 1956. We have very good infrastructure at that time only having good railways, airport, universities and hospitals. These have been convieniently and deliberately ommitted from the academic history books of AP. Nowhere whether its cenima or TV or public representations, Telangan culture is shown. How can anyone ignore the culture of almost 40% people of a state.
When the people of one region are constantly humiliated and denied of what they should be getting, such demands keep coming. Let us show maturity in understanding social problems and think open-mindedly about such inevitable demands, keeping aside the sentiments.

  7. All the reaons mentioned above shows your ignorane to the practical situation in Telangana. All the educational institutions you have mentioned are all private except OU and JNTU so anyone in India can join in it includig you people also. So where is the pointof devellopment in educational sector. And the other point of so called cultivative land. Other than Adilabad all the lands in other districts in Telanagana are verymuch suitable for all types of crops. Can you please tell me one major irrigation project in whole telenaga. You cant mention because there are none. Only one Nagarjunsagar is there in Nalgonda but of no use coz when gates are lifted all water flows to Andra. And you also missed the main problem of Telanaga that is of Naxalism. To you think its a profession of those people. Know the facts and then go for blogging. Iam not here to fight but just wana share views of my people. And as far as the moment is conserned it was started KCR was not even born. He is just a voice from our side not the destiny of telangana. So please live and let my people also live.

  8. @Pandu : I agree with you. People get emotional here if I start speaking anything against to it.

@Mohan : I agree with your history, with whatever you have mentioned. I think its Kurnool and not Kadapa which was sacrificed as the capital. You cannot blame Andhra people for the self made misery of Telanganites

@shashikanth: Well, Well Well, My dear friend. Forget about me, I am sure you are in the same situation who doesn't know much about the practical situation. When Central govt established industries or educational institutions in hyderabad they established it for whole of AP and not just for andhra. Let us show maturity in understanding the consequences of diving the state. This is insanity at its peak to accuse Andhra people for their naxalism. Please refrain from spreading such miss information.

  9. Leave behind all the past which happened to Telangana, lets think for a while we got united only this month as Andhra Pradesh. Now I question all the people of Andhra, Seema why Telangana is discriminated from those regions in regard to NABARD FUNDS(National Bank For Agriculture and Rural Development) which got allotted by Central GOVT. We all think first impression is best impression. Out of Rs.130crore, only Rs.9crore that is not even 10 percent of whole amount is allotted to Telangana and Telangana covers 10 districts out of 23 districts in Andhra Pradesh. Now how to be united with this sort of discrimination. United we are strong enough to ask for funds from Central Govt. and after getting the funds its been partial from Govt. side in allocating the funds. So we can get better funds from Central Govt. after seperate Telangana.

  10. As Shashikanth said KCR is just voice from Telangana. Now if anybody feels KCR is wrong then let them answer about the questions asked by him. Nobody can dare to. Telangana is a Deccan Plateau is only a simple reason to show and escape. Where there is a will there is a way. People from Andhra, Seema have come to Hyderabad for some employment or jobs because Hyderabad is already a developed city by all means. Its been awarded Health City Award before independence. Every body come to Hyderabad to become rich because its been ranked 5th in the nation in 1950 and it is the same even now. Andhra, Seema people claim that they developed Hyderabad but its abosolute foolishness from their side. Had it been ranked atleast 4th and not 5th, then you people should think, not even declare. Software has developed after Naidu has become C.M but there were companies like BHEL(1963), DRDO(1983), DLRL(1961), MIDHANI(1973), BEL( ), HMT(1965), HAL(1965),etc. many more private cos. Never dare to say Hyderabad has developed because of Andhra, Seema people. Instead many have come here for employment not bringing a single rupee at that time and we have supported them.

  16. Hay frnds who are supporting and as well as who are not just share the information you are having instead of getting emotional. Even if Telangana comes were, are and will be Indians first. As one of frnd was saying that blaming Andra people for naxalism is not correct, frnd i have just pointed out the problem not the people responsible. Maharashtra and Gujrath is example of good out come of dividing a state and also bihar and jharkand is the example of failure. So fortune telling that Telangana people will face consequences if state gets divided is not correct. And as far as saying that hyserabad should be a free zone dosnt make sence. Please search for "Political Map of India in 1953". Hyderabad was is and will be capital of Telanagana. Based of Gentle mans agreement state was formed by taking control from Nizams. AP was formed in 1953 and T state demand is from 1965 which got political milage in 1969 by M. Channa Reddy. Live example that T demand is not political is "Vidyardi Garjana" which was held recently. Please people think from our side also. Fighting for more than 54years and still not getting our state is not fare at all.
